It was a cold February day in Southwest Arkansas when I encountered this giant Razorback Hog over twenty years ago. I'll never forget it!
A light drizzle was turning to sleet as nightfall approached. I had been varmint calling for about an hour, in hopes of enticing a coyote or bobcat to the sound of a distressed rabbit.
About thirty minutes before dark I noticed a large black animal running my way through a clean cut field. The critter was about 300 yards away, and I could not identify what it was. It was difficult to make it out in the tall grass.
Obviously the dude was responding to my varmint call. But what was it? He finally materialized in a clearing about twenty-five yards away. That's when I realized I was facing the charge of a huge wild hog!
I got the boar in my scope and fired. He rolled like a cottontail rabbit, and fell dead almost at my feet! What an adrenaline rush! He tipped the scales at 300 pounds!
